Surface + Light + Space recognise the changing role of the architect and that contemporary architectural practice is a collaborative process.
Our approach is informed by wide-ranging experience and a continuing commitment to teaching and research.
We aim to reconcile the different scientific, emotional and economic aspects of every project.
The company was founded by Stuart Palmer in 2007.
Stuart studied at Birmingham School of Architecture and the University of Oklahoma USA. After qualifying he spent one year working in Berlin and four years working for international practices in London, returning to his native Birmingham to work on the award winning Market Place Arts Centre in Armagh, NI, for Glenn Howells Architects.
In 1998 Stuart joined DTG Paris and became a Director; he subsequently set up and led the DTG Rome office. He left Rome in 2003 to join an anglo/US practice delivering the Digital Media Centre at the University of Sunderland, a headquarters for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in Newcastle and designed the East Quay 5 and Fusion office developments, also in central Newcastle.
